Ulpotha is a stunning idyllic self-sustaining Ayurveda village in the jungle heartland in Sri Lanka (three hours north of Colombo). Its philosophy is to embrace a traditional way of living in close relationship with the land. Organic farming and daily life are guided by the seasons. To remain self-sustaining, Ulpotha village invites visitors to live in accordance with nature and to practise yoga for part of the year. What began as a living experiment has grown naturally into a place where people come to rest, rejuvenate and reconnect with something real. I first visited Ulpotha for my 30th birthday and have been returning regularly for over 25 years!

Ulpotha offers world-class yoga, Ayurvedic treatments and massages, natural swimming, stunning walks, trips to incredible sites, mouthwatering locally grown organic vegetarian and plant-based Sri Lankan cuisine, gorgeous restful rustic-style huts and acres of breathtaking views. In other words it is paradise!

Being in Ulpotha provides the perfect opportunity to connect with nature, decompress and recharge. On my retreats I encourage embracing all Eight Limbs of Ashtanga yoga. We have daily Ashtanga Guided Self-Practice; Sanskrit-Counted Primary Series classes; afternoon workshops on asana technique, concepts of the method, body opening, pranayama, meditation, yoga philosophy, history, Q&A.

All levels of Ashtanga yoga practitioners from new to Advanced B Series are welcome (who regularly practise at least the Standing Sequence and last three Finishing asanas). Please click here to learn about beginning Ashtanga yoga.

PLEASE EMAIL IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN COMING: philippa@ashtangaphilippa.com

Accommodation is in elegant and spacious adobe huts which offer a deep connection to nature, whilst being sheltered from the elements. They are truly beautiful, restorative and invite a feeling of peace and tranquillity. Lovely loos and bathrooms are a few steps away and the Ayurvedic Centre provides many other wonderful pampering offerings.

There are solar charged electricity sockets in the main house for charging mobile phones and torches. You can pick up a 5G SIM from Colombo airport should you which to be connected to the outside world.

Cost for two weeks is usually $3,500, but if you book before 16th July, there is 10% discount. If you book directly with Ulpotha, please mention clearly that you are coming to study with me (and copy me  on the email). Places are limited for this retreat, as I prefer to teach small groups for optimum attention and guidance. Please email me as soon as you can, if you're keen.

If you love South Asia and being in tune with nature; are low maintenance and do not require distraction and constant attention; feel inspired by elegant simplicity and embracing a satvic yogic lifestyle; thrive in a stunning environment where yoga and Ayurveda work together in harmony and would benefit from spending two weeks practising Ashtanga yoga with a KPJAYI Certified teacher, this is the retreat for you!
